Former Pakistan cricket captain and swing sultan Wasim Akram
is celebrating his 55th birthday today. Cricket fans from all over the world are
sharing photos and videos of the best moments of their careers on the social
networking site Twitter, congratulating them and wishing them well.
In his 19-year cricket career, Wasim Akram took 916
international wickets and emerged as the most successful left-arm fast bowler.
In October 2013, Wasim Akram was the only cricketer from
Pakistan to be named in the All-Time Test World XI on the occasion of Wisden
Almanc's 150th birthday.
Wasim Akram captained Pakistan in 25 Tests and 109 ODIs. The
team won 12 and 66 matches, respectively.

Wasim Akram was born on June 3, 1966 in Lahore. He started
playing cricket in 1984 by playing for Pakistan Automobile Corporation.
Wasim Akram was the most popular bowler of his time and his
ability to swing in and out at the same time distinguished him from other
bowlers. He is the first Pakistani and second international bowler to take more
than 500 wickets in ODI cricket, taking 502 wickets in 356 ODIs.
He played first-class cricket for the first time in
Rawalpindi at the age of 18 and played his first ODI against New Zealand on
November 23, 1984. Wasim Akram was instrumental in helping Pakistan win the
World Cup in 1992 and was named man of the match against England in the final.
Wasim Akram, a left-arm bowler, represented the national team
in 104 Tests, 356 ODIs and 5 T20I matches in his 19-year career from November
1984 to June 2003.
